Lily Pulitzer Lives On

On Sunday the 7th, the world of fashion was given a complete shock. After years of style innovation, Lilly Pulitzer passed away. From clothes, accessories, agendas, ties, shoes and even bikes, Lilly Pulitzer has made her mark in the fashion industry by influencing many people with her unique trends and prints.

In 1931, an aspiring New York socialite Lilly McKim eloped with publishing tycoon Peter Pulitzer. The newlyweds then mvoed to Palm Beach where Lilly opened a  juice stand. Taking a bad situation of citrus staining her clothing, she started a small profit clothing line which included her new brightly colored and patterned clothes. Her designs quickly became the unoffical uniform for most Palm Beach resorts. Her clothes quickly transformed into a large-base industry with everyone wanting to wear the newest trend of the 1900's.

Still today, Lilly's designs thrive and live on. I always see girls wearing dresses, skirts, shorts, etc. of Lilly designs. I even see guys wearing Lilly ties and bowties. Lilly has given many people the confidence to try new designs and trends to broaden their style. All of her designs throughout the years have made people cheery and bright! SHe was an amazing person who inspired so many and even though she is lost, her memory and success lives on!

Style Icon Sunday: Jackie Kennedy

Not only was she the first lady, but she was constantly applauded for her style. With her timeless fashion, service work and dedication to society, she was a definite role model for young women of her time and young women today.
She was always a character who showed the classy side of fashion with elegant ball gowns, sun dresses and even her casual look was elegant. She is arguably the best first lady dedicated to style and looking her best. Not only do you have to act the part but you also want to look the part! First ladies today, in my opinion, go overboard with looking "fashionable."You need a timeless style icon like Jackie Kennedy to show you that looking over-the-top is not necessarily looking your best. Keep it simple, yet elegant.
One timeless classic that Jackie Kennedy constantly portrayed were pearls. Every girl should own a pair of pearls. They can change your outfit from boring to elegant.
Jackie knew that looking your best can influence how you are seen in a world of ever-changing business. She took simple things and changed them into elegant, proving that you do not need some over-the-top outfit to look like a princess. She was an ever-growing style icon that people still use today for inspiration!

Listen While You Lose It

We all know that workouts can be tedious and it's hard to get motivated. One thing that gets me pumped and ready to get extreme is having a hard core playlist you listen to. You don't want to listen to sappy slow songs while you're trying to workout, it doesn't motivate you to keep you going and race until the end. If you really want to shred those few extra pounds. Download something head banging, fast and loud to get you in the workout mood. Something that reminds you what you're working toward. Whatever works for you should give you that extra push to work toward your goal.

Some of the songs on my 'workout' playlist are:
Metal Health by: Quiet Riot
Can't Be Tamed by: Miley Cyrus
Don't Stop Me Know by: Queen
She's Not Afraid by: One Direction
Back In TIme by: Huey Lewis

And the most vigorating and kick-ass song that everyone should have on their 'workout' playlist:
Gonna Fly Now by: Bill Conti from the legendary movie all about finding your full potential and working hard...ROCKY! ONe of my new favorite movies!

Get pumped with your 'workout' playlist and listen while you lose it!

Keep It Simple!

You know the feeling when you're rushed in the morning and everything falls to pieces?
My morning consisted as such: I didn't know what the weather was going to be like (rain boots or no?!), hadn't the slightest idea of an outfit and I was already running late. Now, I'm positive I'm not the only one that has gone through this morning disaster. The thing I did was pick a simple t shirt, jeans and my Nike tennis shoes. Even though it's not an incredibly "glamorous" outfit, it got me more focused to start my day and not have to worry about clothes (which is the basis of my morning, we all want to look good when we start the day right?). In hindsight, I'm really happy I just chose something simple rather than something I would regret wearing later on.
FASHION REGRET: Last week, I was pushed for time in the morning and hadn't really picked out an outfit so I didn't take the simple route. I put on my snakeskin jeans (but don't get me wrong! I LOVE those pants), a Quiet Riot colored t shirt, and Vans. All of them are great pieces ON THEIR OWN. But, pair them all together? Joanne Rivers should've had a segment on me during Fashion Police. There was just too much going on and I regretted my outfit the rest of the day. When trying to avoid mornings like that, just keep it simple! It's a lot better then looking like a hot mess during the day.

MINT is the new black!
There are constantly new fashion trends that appear every year and we all want to participate. This year, mint or "Tiffany blue" made a big splash in daily style. The best part about mint is that it can go with any type of style imaginable. If you have a preppy persona, pair this mint top with the Lilly Pulitzer print 'Birdie' or 'Private Island' and Jacks. The best thing about Lilly prints is that there's a vide variety so you don't have to pigeon-hole yourself to one specific one with this mint color. If you have a more punk quirk, then do as I did. I paired this outfit with neutral color snakeskin pants and silver flats. You want to avoid something too matchy and go for the simplicity of punk. Mint is such a fun and enjoyable color that can brighten anyones day wearing it. It makes you feel vibrant, spirited and electrifying. It can be the perfect remedy for a rainy day. So, go match your favorite mint sweater, pants, you name it and brighten up someone's day with your vibrant style choice!

Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to Kate's Contrary Classics! A blog about LIFESTYLE.

Classic [klas-ik]

  1. Creation or work considered as definitive
  2. An author, artist, or work of art of the highest excellence
  3. Of lasting interest or significance
As you can see, 'classic' can be defined as a multitude of things. Classics mean different things to different people whether they're a classic dress, a classic musical selection or a classic work of art. Classic is defined as it travels through the ages and no one can define it better then you. Through this blog, I will be defining what I believe to be "classics" whether it's clothes, shoes, accessories, you name it. Some of my style may be labeled as interesting or different but I like to think it's very broad. You can take one simple item of clothing and change it the way you see it. Hopefully this blog will help you define what you want your style to be and take it on the contrary! Make it different but more importantly make it YOU

So, please subscribe and we can define our own 'classic' together!
